We love celebrating our Independence Day (especially when it makes for a three day weekend!). It is always filled with special time with our family, barbecuing with our friends, and enjoying the fireworks light up the night sky! We enjoy being a part of and seeing so many pictures of all of the July 4th parades that happen from coast to coast. Each city has it’s own unique take on celebrating the 4th of July! It is amazing seeing all of the red, white, and blue flags waving in the air demonstrating pride for this beautiful country.

What is your favorite part of celebrating 4th of July? After spending the entire day celebrating with friends and family, our favorite highlight of the night is getting to experience the beautiful array of firework colors (not only red, white, & blue!). It isn’t an Independence Day celebration without fireworks lighting up the sky and I’m always making sure to get the best seat to do so. This year, I’ll be watching the fireworks over the East River in New York City. Most people escape NYC to celebrate the 4th, so I’m excited to see what it has to offer while most people are away!

It’s about that time again – our new hand painted backdrops for the month of July! Let’s see what our graphic designers and artists have been up to this past month. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing some flavorful cocktails, a beautiful summer lake landscape, a Hollywood red carpet, and a burning hot volcano! Let’s get to it!

Who doesn’t love a fruity, colorful cocktail? Especially, a complete line up of delicious, radiant refreshments. To me, there’s not a better symbol of summer than a vibrant cocktail on a warm day. There’s something about the way the sun reflects off the drink that brings a smile to my face. Our Celebrate 7 Cocktails backdrop brings this feeling to your special event, no matter what time of year it is!

Our Summer Parklands backdrop creates the essence of summer in any space, whether it be a ballroom, theater production, or dance recital. The luscious trees surrounding the serene lake pop with vibrant colors from a variety of greens, pinks, and yellows. The reflection on the lake from the clouds and the trees adds depth to the backdrop that is inviting to the eye.

Lights, Camera, Action! We’ve heard a few times before that it’s #AllAboutTheNACE & we couldn’t agree more. We travelled to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, which was such a gorgeous resort we never wanted to leave. While we know summer in Arizona is no cool feat, we were excited to escape the heat and enjoy our NACE Experience – with much needed air conditioning. Exhibiting at a resort with so many luscious and prominent palm trees, it seemed fitting to showcase our Stage Showgirls 4 backdrop.

This backdrop showcases the silhouettes of the dancers and palm trees in a vibrant setting full of fireworks, green foliage, market lights, and a serene water element behind the stage. The array of colors in this backdrop is accentuated through the use of LED lighting shining on the front of the backdrop. It was so much fun to see the colors change and compliment our hand painted backdrop by creating dynamic movement throughout. It felt as if the silhouettes were moving to the music, which showcased the fluidity of our backdrops in motion. This backdrop transformed the room into a slice of tropical paradise.

We had such a great time getting to know the attendees, creating relationships with other vendors and NACE partners, and tasting all of the delicious creations from the catering team! We were lucky enough to be right next to all of the delectable cuisine! Tell me how great those desserts look? We think they’re a perfect pair to our summer inspired backdrop. We love the idea of utilizing a backdrop behind a catering station or dessert table that enhances the theme of the event or type of cuisine that’s being served. The pairing of the catering station and themed backdrop will cohesively amplify the atmosphere of your event. After all, you do eat with your eyes first.

Wizard of Oz 3B Backdrop – 20′ X 10′

We always get asked, “What do you use to hang a backdrop? How difficult is it? How long does it take?”. This post is to solve just that! Being in the theatrical backdrop business, we are all about that pipe & base! Depending on the size of the backdrop, our needs in terms of hardware adjust slightly. Our backdrops have either grommets, ties, or a combination of both along the top and the side of the backdrop. We recommend using plastic zip ties with the grommets as they tend to provide a tighter grip on a variety of different types of hardware. At the top, the grommets are 20 inches apart and, along the sides, they are 30 inches apart. The backdrops also have a pole pocket along the bottom, which can be used this to weigh down the backdrop to create a seamless look without creases. Additionally, the grommets on the bottom corners allow for pulling the backdrop tight to further reduce creases. We recommend that you use counterweight (pipe & base) system or any smooth horizontal beam. For a 40′ x 20′ backdrop, it’s necessary to have 4 cross bars (10 ft each), 5 uprights (20 ft each), and 5 bases (as every upright needs a base). For a 20′ x 10′ backdrop, it’s necessary to have 2 cross bars, 3 uprights, and 3 bases to make sure the backdrop is well supported.

For backdrops exceeding 10’ high, we recommend to hire an installation company.  If the backdrop is 10′ high, it is easier to manage and can easily be hung using the ties we provide together with the grommets on the backdrop, rubber tipped clamps, or zip ties. A 20′ x 10′ backdrop is an easy task for 1-2 people and takes around 20-30 minutes to assemble the hardware and hang the backdrop.

We provide the hardware and local installation in San Diego and Orange County, so if you live in the area this is definitely recommended! If you live elsewhere, we have a recommended list of companies in select states. Our Train 5 Winter backdrop is one of our newest additions as we are preparing for winter recitals and events. This is the ultimate winter backdrop, accentuating the fast pace of the train amid a snowy day. The beaming lights of the train showcase the essence of witnessing light within the darkness. We had such a great time over the last few months traveling all over the states for one of our favorite industries: DANCE! We met so many ambitious, creative, and amiable dance teachers and studio owners during our travels. Our first stop along the Dance wave was Dance Teacher Summit in Long Beach, CA. What a fun vibe to be around so many people that are passionate about dance and are eager to learn about the next best thing in the industry.

Our next stop was DanceLife Teacher Conference in Scottsdale, AZ where we escaped the heat and enjoyed the conference and expo by talking to new and familiar faces in the industry. It was wonderful getting a chance to bond with fellow vendors and those excited about learning how to make their recitals the most memorable ones yet.

We then travelled to Dance Teacher Web Live Conference at the beautiful Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, CT. Surrounded by a beautiful, lush forest – this resort is one of a kind. We featured our Dance Radio backdrop, which has become one of our more popular dance themed backdrops. We loved meeting with so many dance teachers and studio owners from the East Coast. Our favorite discussions were hearing all of the different recital theme ideas and were so inspired by all of the professionals that dare to be different! We’re always welcoming new suggestions and ideas on new backdrops that we can paint to better accommodate all of the trendsetters in the dance industry.

Our newly painted Christmas home backdrop showcases the ideal interior during the magical winter nights of December. This was a custom rental that we designed together with a customer for a Bar Mitzvah to celebrate his love for skateboarding and passion for street art. We cannot believe that it’s almost October! Of course, that means Fall, cooler weather, and Halloween just around the corner! No matter how you celebrate Halloween, there’s always a hand-painted backdrop that can completely transform your experience.

How is it already December? Our artists have been working hard to create new hand-painted backdrops and they have outdone themselves. These backdrops are seriously creative, amazingly vibrant, and definitively unique.

This Brooklyn bridge inspired backdrop speaks volumes about the vibrancy of the city and it’s unique architectural structures. Our interpretation of the Brooklyn Bridge was inspired by our trip to New York for a trade show. This angled take on the bridge has the viewer tangled in the web of the infamous cords of the Brooklyn Bridge. The sunset behind the bridge sets the scene for a vibrant and exciting night ahead. If this isn’t one of your favorite bridges in New York City, it should be. Take a walk across from Manhattan to Brooklyn and eat at one of the most famous pizza joints New York has to offer. It will change your perspective on New York City, this beautiful bridge, and what the city has to offer. We love creating new backdrops that represent the heartbeat of major cities.

What’s not to love about a whale and it’s loving offspring? Our whale backdrop is the definition of a realistic depiction of a whale and it’s calf spending time together. Nothing jerks at my heart more than seeing these two together. It amazes me that it looks like a picture, but it’s actually a painted backdrop! Our artists are seriously talented. It was such an honor to be a sponsor of such a meaningful cause. We jumped at the idea of being a sponsor of The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) annual event, ‘A Time For Heroes‘, at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, CA. A family-friendly event dedicated to spreading awareness of pediatric AIDS while providing a fun atmosphere for all of the attendees.

This was a fun and adventure packed day with such important intent. There were so many options for all of the families and kids. We loved all of the activities! Some of the highlights were the Nickelodeon Animation Station, King of Harts Lake Tahoe camping experience, Cinema Makeup School play station, science room exploration station, gift bag screen-printing, basketball, and virtual surfing.

We sponsored the King of Harts booth by Melissa Joan Hart in which were honored to be part of the Tahoe camping experience to introduce their new line of clothes for kids! We loved seeing Melissa, Tori Spelling, and other celebrities read by the campfire! We had the pleasure of providing our Woodlands backdrop as a perfect complement for this Lake Tahoe camp-inspired King of Harts booth.

This was definitely a star-studded event full of celebrities including Melissa Joan Hart, Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott, Hannah Simone, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, James Van Der Beek, Alyson Hannigan, and many more. We all joined EGPAF to celebrate its 26th annual ‘A Time for Heroes’ family festival, which was truly such a blast for all that attended.

EGPAF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing pediatric HIV infection and eliminating pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. This is such an important and significant cause. We’re so proud to be part of this amazing event that brought awareness to the attendees and greater community at large. #TSE2016 was one for the books! The Special Event Show is ALWAYS one of our favorites & this year was no different! The Exhibit Hall was so vibrant, the events so exciting, and the people were so passionate about the events industry! We had such an amazing time connecting with other exhibitors, discussing new design trends in the events industry, and meeting fantastic people!

We were so excited to showcase our Garden Party backdrop at our booth! No matter what the event is, Alice in Wonderland is always a good idea. This backdrop makes it effortless to bring the theme to life. It makes us want to throw an Alice-inspired tea party in an enchanted forest. The stacked teapots, decadent desserts, and unique collection of chairs all add to the scenic charm. The vibrant colors of this backdrop are sure to brighten your day and your event.

Our lovely partners helped enhance our booth to the next level! Our pipe & drape was provided by Quest Drape, our furniture (I mean, look at that loveseat!) was provided by AFR, and our realistic turf was provided by American Turf & Carpet. We couldn’t just bring one backdrop to #TSE2016! As a premier sponsor, we provided the backdrop for the TSE Live Performance Stage. We featured our newly painted Umbrellas backdrop. It is full of colorful umbrellas in a perfectly cloudy sky. It’s such a perfect scene to liven up any venue. As we all know, the parties are one of the highlights of the Special Events Show! We were honored to feature our Twilight forest backdrop behind the amazing entertainment at the Closing Night Party! It is truly remarkable how the perception of the backdrop can change with adjusting the color and intensity of the front lighting!

TSE helped us start off this year with a bang! We are so excited for what this year will bring for us. Looking forward to all of our other trade shows, events, and dynamic affairs.

We are officially counting down to the Superbowl is this weekend! Who is planning on throwing a Superbowl Party? It’s definitely one of our favorite past times and we are looking forward to this year’s party! We’ve rounded up our advice on how to plan the perfect Superbowl party. Check it out below!

1. Invite your friends, family, and colleagues

Tell all of your friends to come over [& not just those into football]. The Superbowl is time to relax, spend time with your loved ones, share in delicious food and drink, and discuss all of the crazy commercials. Think: More The Merrier when it comes to the guest list. The crowd is what makes Superbowl parties so much fun.

2. Make it a potluck

You know those loved ones we we’re talking about above? They can add a helping hand in the party! Superbowl parties are all about bitesize appetizers. You can spend all day looking for inspiration on Pinterest & even tell your friends what you’d like them to bring! Superbowl bites can either make or break the party, so come prepared.

3. Add a friendly competition

There’s nothing that complements a Superbowl party more than a friendly [or not-so-friendly] Superbowl Pool! Easily download your pool here and print it out for the party. This is sure to get everyone even more excited for the game.

4. Easily enhance your home décor

The Superbowl is in San Francisco, CA this year! Since not all of can be in San Francisco for the game, why not bring San Francisco to your party? Enhance you home décor for the day by renting a beautiful backdrop to set the scene at your party or even for a DIY photo booth! So many options and so many choices.

5. Turn up the TV, especially during commercials

We all know that the commercials are what make the Superbowl so great [even if the game is lacking in the excitement part]. Make the most out of the commercials by creating a game out of it! Have your guests chance their luck at guessing the type of product showcased in the first commercial of the game, the first commercial after halftime, and what product will be showcased most often!

Did you know that Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday? The name is to reflect the indulgence that takes place by eating richer foods before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, the following day. The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced all the way back to Greece and Rome, when early Christians with Pagan roots celebrated and feasted on the days before the somber days of Lent. Mardi Gras is an annual Carnival celebration that is celebrated around the world. The most popular and festive place in the United States to celebrate this occasion is in New Orleans, Louisiana. The first occurrence of the Mardi Gras celebration in Louisiana dates back to March 2nd, 1699.

Celebratory parades and festivities are ongoing for two weeks until and through Fat Tuesday. The parades in New Orleans are organized by Carnival Krewes, which are organizations that put on parades and/or balls during Carnival season. Krewe float riders often throw items to people passing by, most famously colored plastic beads, aluminum or wooden coins called doubloons, decorate plastic cups, and other small plastic toys. The tradition of Krewe riders throwing colorful beads began in the late 19th century. The same parade schedule and route is followed each year by major krewes. It is very common for the krewe members to wear vibrant masks, colorful costumes, and vivid beads.

The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green, and gold. All three colors were used by the Catholic Church throughout history. As Mardi Gras is Catholic in origin, these colors have continued to be used during the carnival celebrations and festivities. These colors really do define Mardi Gras and elevate it as its own unique festivals and celebration.

Love is in the Air, Valentine

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! We’re excited to celebrate with our loved ones. Valentine’s Day is also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine. Although the holiday didn’t start out about love, in 18th-century England it evolved into a day when people expressed their love to one another through presenting flowers, offering sweets, and sending each other hand written greeting cards (now known as ‘valentines’). We love trading and surprising others with Valentine’s! It’s definitely not only reserved for when we’re younger. We think the more clever, the better. So go grab your supplies and create your own unique valentine for those special someones in your life. It’s time to get creative and show your loved ones what they mean to you! & there’s no better way to do this than a homemade valentine.

No Valentine? What about a Galentine?

We affectionately love Galentine’s Day as we know our female best friends are the bees knees & perhaps our absolute favorite type of love story. This term was first coined by Parks & Recreation’s Leslie Knope, who officially made February 13th Galentine’s Day. A pre-Valentines day brunch consisting of ‘ladies celebrating ladies’. Having a gal pal to confide in, a best friend to shop with, and a partner in crime helps make our worlds go round. No matter where you live, it’s easy to find the perfect place for brunch with your girls or you can always have your girls over at your place. & remember: #NoBoysAllowed.

However you are celebrating, we hope you have a weekend full of laughter, spontaneity, love, and definitely brunch. Even though it’s only Wednesday, we’re already counting down to this weekend. There’s no shame in having something to look forward to, right?
